73 Hữu tình đến gieo giống, nhân đất quả liền sanh
Trò hỏi:
Xin Bác giải thích cho con câu
"Hữu tình đến gieo giống,
Nhân đất quả liền sanh;
Vô tình đã không giống,
Không tánh cũng không sanh”!
Thầy trả lời:
Bốn câu này, Đức Ngũ tổ Hoằng Nhẫn dạy Đức Lục tổ Huệ Năng như sau:
- Hữu tình đến gieo giống: Người nào biết họ có tánh Phật, cũng gọi là hạt giống Phật.
- Nhân đất quả liền sanh: Gặp đất tốt, hạt giống Phật - quả Phật liền sanh.
- Vô tình đã không giống: Người nào không biết mình có tánh Phật.
- Không tánh cũng không sanh: Thì tánh Phật không mở ra.
Bốn câu này, ý Đức Ngũ tổ Hoằng Nhẫn dạy Lục tổ Huệ Năng như sau:
Người nào biết được họ có tánh Phật thì dạy pháp môn Giải thoát này. Còn người nào không biết mình có tánh Phật thì không dạy cho họ pháp môn Giải thoát này, nếu dạy họ như nước đổ lá môn không dính được.

Without feelings, there is no seed at all.

In these four sentences, the Fifth Patriarch Hoang Nhan taught the Sixth Patriarch Hui Neng as follows:
- With feelings come the planting of the seed: Those who know they have Buddha nature are also called Buddha seeds.
- Because of the ground, the fruit is born again: Meet good soil, Buddha seed - Buddha fruit is immediately born
- Without feeling there is no seed at all: Those who do not know they have Buddha nature.
- Without that nature there is no birth either: The Buddha nature does not open.
In these four sentences, the Fifth Patriarch Hoang Nhan aimed to teach the Sixth Patriarch Hui Neng as follows:
Those who know they have Buddha nature, you should teach the Dharma of Liberation. Those who do not know that they have Buddha nature, you should not teach them the Dharma of Liberation. If you try to teach them, it is like water off a duck’s back, there is no effect.
